Hibernate Desktop Icon

For those of you who use hibernate mode as much as I do, this is a great little tip. It allows you to create a shortcut icon on your desktop or your quicklaunch to hibernate your system without having to go through the normal odd procedure. Follow these steps:

1. Right-click an empty space on your desktop.
2. Select NEW/SHORTCUT
3. Type in: “rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll SetSuspendState”
4. Click NEXT
5. Clear the text and type in “Hibernate”
6. Click FINISH

Now you should have a shortcut to hibernate. Try it out to make sure it works and you’re set.

Restore a Lost Desktop

Awhile back, we received a call at the shop asking for help. The caller’s program had crashed and their desktop had disappeared, leaving them with only the taskbar. After testing countless software apps and having them crash on me, I knew this one. And it’s actually quite easy. Follow these steps:

1. Click START
2. Select RUN
3. Type in a period “.”
4. Click OK

Now you should have your desktop back.
